Former Indian women hockey captain Shashi Bala died on June 20, 2015. She died along with her 15-year-old son Agrim Thakur following a road accident in Punjab. She was 45. She made her international debut in 1987 and was a member of the national team in the 1998 FIH Women World Cup in the Netherlands. She was captain of the national team during the 1997 FIH Women World Cup Qualifier held in Harare, Zimbabwe.

Singh, who is also a former hockey player, said Shashi Bala had remained captain for Indian hockey team for women.
In the accident nine persons, who were in another vehicle, also sustained injuries and they were rushed to local hospital for treatment, police said.
